  • A full-length feature can take more than a year of animation, using lots of computer power for rendering the scenes. The really complex scenes can take hours to render a single frame. It's more than just the time to give the computers instructions. Before any animation begins, there's a year or more of writing a script and getting backers (like a major studio). And designing the look. And designing the characters and the scenery. And, depending on the style, new software may have to be invented to achieve a particular look. That takes time, too. So, 3-5 years could be a reasonable guess. Movies have been made faster and others take forever.
