I make turkey Gumbo. Now my friends are telling me there is no such thing !

    Gumbo is basically just a stew/soup, with the holy trinity and file powder or okra to thicken it. It can be made out of seafood or poultry or meats from a variety, and often has more than one kind. Poultry could be chicken quail, duck, turkey, pleasant, whatever you have. There is such a thing as turkey gumbo if that is what you used.

    Well, your friends are being jerks. All gumbo is is a stew/soup that consists primarily of a strong stock, meat and/or shellfish, a thickener, and the vegetable "holy trinity" of celery, bell peppers and onion. The soup is traditionally served over rice.

    What a wonderful meal. Tell them there really is such a good thing then give them a sample taste. Be sure to put some extra peppers in it for that added flavor.
