Which nation? As of 2005, Baltimore was leading the list for the United States. I lived there for 10 years. We averaged a homocide a day (and that's just within the city limits). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_cities_by_crime_rate

According to this following website, the most dangerous city is St. Louis , MO. http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0921299.html One should be careful when looking at statistics, though. Some cities classify their crimes differently, which can skew the totals. Crimes should also be measured per capita, not as an overall number. For instance, during part of 2007 NYC had more murders than Orlando, FL. However, the per capita numbers were much higher for Orlando than NYC. Statistics are really just rough estimates when you get right down to it.

New Orleans. Their crime and homicides lead the nation. More homicides a month, than any other city in the United States.

It's a good idea to bear in mind that 'the nation' could refer to any country and that Answerbag is international, not just American.

As of 2007, the most violent crimes per 100,000: 1. Detroit 2. St. Louis 3. Memphis 4. Oakland 5. Baltimore ... and the most property crimes per 100,000: 1. Rockford (Illinois) 2. St. Louis 3. Memphis 4. Atlanta 5. Columbus (Ohio) Note: I was unable to find statistics for a couple of major cities (including Chicago).
