The idea that a student 'should' be allowed to abuse a teacher (whatever that specifically means) is totally contrary to common sense. Students should obey all teacher commands at all time, be respectful, dutiful and polite.

Corporal punishment is, in my opinion appropriate for severely disruptive students who have not yet shown evidence of emotional or mental disturbance. Standard negative/positive punishment and reward still works just as well for normal kids who get out of line once in awhile.

Above all, children shouldn't be medicated except for extreme health conditions like epilepsy, for I believe this is one of the core causes of the dramatic rise in assaults on teachers since the late 1980's, which coincides with the massive onslaught of ritalin, prozac and haldol for 'disruptive' children.

    Pupil:

    –noun
    1. a person, usually young, who is learning under the close supervision of a teacher at school, a private tutor, or the like; student.
    2. Civil Law. an orphaned or emancipated minor under the care of a guardian.
    3. Roman Law. a person under the age of puberty orphaned or emancipated, and under the care of a guardian.
