  • If it is with all liquors, most likely. If it is with only certain types (wine or beer or certain mixed drinks) a component therein would probably be the culprit. Drunk and having a bad reaction is not a good combination, however and I urge you to be safe, abstain if possible and at the very least go have a doctor give you an allergy test.
  • I think it sounds like you could be experiencing Rosacea. It usually affects women more than men. Try this site for info on Rosacea: http://www.diseasedirectory.net/Skin_Disorders/Rosacea/default.aspx
  • A certain percentage of the population gets this. Asians get it the worst. Red marks, etc. Yeah there's no cure. You will have to stop drinking or it will always happen. Doesn't sound to healthy to me.
  • This is called the disulfiram reaction which was discovered because of a class of mushrooms that cause a cross-sensitivity with alcohol. Eventually it was synthesized into a drug to combat alcohol abuse by causing acute discomfort when taken with alcohol (Antabuse, disulfiram) "Disulfiram plus even small amounts of alcohol produces flushing, throbbing in head and neck, throbbing headache, respiratory difficulty, nausea, copious vomiting, sweating, thirst, chest pain, palpitation, dyspnea, hyperventilation, tachycardia, hypotension, syncope, marked uneasiness, weakness, vertigo, blurred vision, and confusion." http://www.mentalhealth.com/drug/p30-a02.html#Head_6 Since you didn't state you were taking any medications, we could assume that you suffer from a fairly rare genetic disorder that prevents your liver from producing acetaldehyde dehydrogenase, which happens after the liver converts alcohol to acetaldehyde. Acetaldehyde is a toxin that causes hangovers and discomfort, so you are essentially immediately getting a hangover because your liver cannot convert the ethanol to something metabolizable. As far as I know there is no way to avoid this.
  • My 25 year old Fiance' suffers from the same exact thing! We have found that steering clear of any dark alcohol definitely reduces the reaction and alternating liquor with lots of water also helps! Just some ideas and insight! Good luck.
  • Yip, it's all too easy for all the self righteous doo gooders to say 'stop drinking'... I (and a billion others) enjoy a few drinks every now and then. I get a similar reaction, although not quite as hectic. Try taking Pepsid AC or Zantac an hour before drinking. It helped me quite a bit. Not 100% cure, but it helps big time.
