Scrambled eggs. Cottage cheese and scrambled eggs contain no carbohydrates. Good food for losing weight.
-
I eat it as a side dish, it goes with most meals, I eat it with spicy or hot foods, it cools your tongue.
-
Peaches. I also love it in that lime jello with pineapple and nuts. My grandmother used to make it.
-
We make a cottage cheese salad in my family. 16 oz cottage cheese 1 large cool whip 1 can crushed pineapple, drained 1 can mandarin orange pieces, drained (optional) 2 boxes gelatin, any flavor Mix all together except cool whip, then fold that in. Chill and serve.

Yes it is...However, it can be used as a central ingredient in quiches or pasta dishes ... :)
-
My hubby eats it with onions and cucumber. Can't stand the stuff myself, to be honest. I do have a bread recipe I use it in, though.

Understand first, that before modern shipping methods and supermarkets, people didn't worry about what foods "go together." Farm families ate whatever was in season. If you read Laura Ingalls Wilder, her weekday meal in the summer would include cottage cheese for a protien, because it was a fresh cheese that could be quickly made when all the cows were fresh at the same time and in the heaviest season of milking. Other types of cheese need to age and ripen, but cottage cheese is eaten as soon as it is made. She would also eat whatever was available in the garden, like fresh peas or tomatoes with cream. My family ate much the same when my grandparents and great-grandparents were kids. But PA Dutch folks tend to mix apple butter with their cottage cheese and eat it that way. In summer, you eat a chicken on Sunday, because it can be completely consumed in one sitting so that you don't waste meat as it sits around and spoils with no refrigeration. During the week you eat the fresh milk and eggs that are coming in faster than you can use them. Beef and pork are for winter time, when the weather is cold enough for the meat to freeze or to keep it cool long enough to cure it before it spoils. Calves and pigs were butchered near Thanksgiving and the meat kept in an unheated shed or cured. That meat generally needs to be used before the weather heats up in spring, unless it is a really salty and heavily smoked country ham. I would guess that is probably to origin of having a ham for Easter dinner, as the weather would be warming and the hams wouldn't keep much longer unless they were really well cured.

Yes. Common part of high protein diet, especially instead of fries or cole slaw. My mom put it in the hole of a cantaloupe half.
-
I like to eat it with salt and pepper and fresh sliced tomatoes. I also add it to my lasagna instead of ricotta cheese.
-
Pineapple is probably my favorite add in for cottage cheese. Any acidic fruit plays well. Even canned peaches or apricots work. It's equally fine by itself. It also works in place of ricotta cheese for things like lasagna.
-
Mix it with a drained can of tuna and a drained can of green chilies. Add salt and pepper to taste and voila! a nice low cal nutritious lunch!
-
I don't like to eat cottage cheese by itself. TO me it's more of an ingredient than a 'cheese dish'.
-
I think everyone said what I was going to say (well maybe a couple I wouldn't want to try) So Chief there you are!!! ☺
-
A bowl of sorrow.
-
Yes and no. LOL Actually, I see it as several different things: (1) a side dish on its own (2) an ingredient inside another dish you're making .. like say .. seafoam salad. (3) on it's own as the main thing for a lunch. Add some pineapple (wedges or crushed) stirred in .. then maybe a roller or English muffin or slice of bread and YUM .. good to go. Good stuff. :)
-
My girlfriend eats it with Strawberry Jelly
-
i love it with drained canned peaches!
-
i would eat cheese alone, love cheese
-
I never really thought of it as a side dish...I just eat it cause it's yummy! I think it's an all around whenever dish! I know a lot of people that like fruit in their cottage cheese...I personally don't like it. Pineapple is a popular one!
-
I like it as alternative to French fries, when I'm ordering a sandwich at a restaurant. It can also serve as a substitute for hash browns at breakfast time.
-
The best way to eat cottage cheese .... Bake a potato in the oven until soft. Cut it open and add a small amount of garlic butter. When the heat from the potato melts the butter, add a generous amount of cottage cheese (the kind with chives is the best). Top with a sprinkling of black pepper. Can be served with a side salad. D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S !!!

I see it as a side dish. I always love mixed fruit with it. When I have an upset stomach cottage cheese seems to settle the acid in my stomach.

I like cottage cheese on a bed of sliced tomatoes with a little garlic salt and pepper. Yumm!

With sliced fresh tomatoes...sounds like two sides together, but a fav from when I was a kid. I eat it as a side with a grilled hamburger patty.
-
I would eat it with canned peaches.

Fresh cracked black pepper....mmmmmm

I eat with egg noodles and sugar. Cook up the noodles, add the cottage cheese, top w/sugar. ;-) Or cottage cheese on warm toast. and the classic cottage cheese and peaches ;-) I am SO sick of dieting.

I like cottage cheese by itself or with plain potato chips. MY favorite would be on a salad with Thousand Island dressing.
