Help answer this question below.
I apologize for answering this again, but I had someone say to me that I was listening to conspiracy theorists. I wish to answer that here. And it does pertain to this question.
Blessed, it was not my grandparents, it was my parents that went through it, and yes, I have heard their stories first hand. Yes, I DO think it is looking worse for us than it was for them. Do you want to know why? Seriously?
First, Back then, there was a larger agricultural base. Many more people farmed, and there were a lot more small family farms. NOT big businesses. People could and did grow their own food, butcher their own meat, and survive a lot better. Back then, if someone came to your house and asked for a meal, you fed them. You did not turn them away and tell them to go to a soup kitchen, you provided a meal. And they generally helped you a bit at home for it.
Yes, the cities were bad. But there were a lot less of them than there are now. There were a lot fewer people. And people cared. Gangs were virtually unheard of. Now they are everywhere. Doing drugs was practically unheard of. People would be allowed to sweep streets for cash. Now prisoners do it for free. Crime rates fell drastically during the Great Depression. Now they are skyrocketing. Prisons are overflowing.
The information age is at hand. People, even the poor, know the money is out there, and that it is in the hands of a few. The poor hear how worthless they are, how lazy they are, and how the rich and the upper middle class should not have to help them.
Guns are being taken out of the hands of the average citizen and put into the hands of gang members and criminals. People cannot defend themselves like they used to. They are depending on the government. And the government is failing. People used to be able to get help, when needed. Now that help is being taken away at a faster and faster rate.
Vehicles were not as common as they are now. It was harder to get around. Many people worked within walking distance and did not need cars. Now people have access to travel. People have access to the internet, and there are a lot out there that know their way around it, enough to do great damage. People have access to TV now, whereas it used to be radio, and rarely did they talk about things out of your immediate area. If it did not impact you, you did not hear it. Now people hear it all, and can find what is not shoved in front of them.
When you are homeless, begging for food, desperate for medical care for your family, and can see on televisions where politicians are hosting $500.00 a plate meals. And people pay for them. They see where people with money are going and doing and having. And they don't see much about THEM, the poor, the homeless, except as statistics. And they can think, and realize that those that have money do not care. As long as THEY are not impacted. And they WILL remember. And something will be done. Unless a miracle occurs, it won't be pretty.
Yes, you can ask your grandparents how it was. I asked my parents. They remember working picking onions for pennies a day. They remember walking to an one room schoolhouse for an education. They remember the patched clothes, the cardboard in the shoes, and the scrimping and saving. And they, before they died, both said to me that they were glad they were not going to be around much longer, because things are getting worse and worse. People just refuse to see it, until it impacts them, personally.
I think that there is a civil war coming. The poor are tired of being told how worthless and lazy they are. And they are tired of being slowly killed by the ones that have the money. When it happens, it won't be pretty. And I will almost bet money it will.
The reason the depression in the 1920's did not divide the USA is because the people pulled together. The president led the nation, and instituted programs to help the people. Job programs, food, shelter. Those that had money helped. Those that had money knew they could be on the streets the next day, so they did not treat the poor like garbage. You could sell pencils on the street and have people buy them. We were a nation united.
Now we are a nation where those that have money say that there is no way THEY are going to pay to help those lazy, worthless poor. They WORKED for their money, let the poor do the same. ANYONE can get a job, they just have to have ambition. It's not their problem, tell the poor to go elsewhere for help. And the poor know. And they will rebel. They will feel they have no choice, but to fight, or starve.
The US is not breaking up.
Countries break up when they include regions with distinct ethnicities or include areas that used to be countries - like USSR.
The US is populated with mostly the same mix of people all over.
US isn't going anywhere. This is going to hurt, but we're too proud to fail because of money.
the divide that is happening is not a goegraphical divide, it is a financial one. geographical divides CAN end up peacefully by breaking up, when a financial divide grows civil war is inevitable. look at the histories of impirial russia and france.
in 2012 when the poles flip and the continents move, the US will break up into small nations. That didn't happen in the 1920's.
God Bless the USA.
I watched CNN news that said about it and also, Russia news told CNN news last month. I think Russia wants to revenge against USA for Soviet collaspe in 1991. Well, USA did not do nothing with that. So, why does Russia want to revege against USA? Ok, Don't believe everything.
Who on Earth says the U.S. is going to break up???
That would make things even worse than we can imagine! In fact, it would create chaos ..... and probably end our way of life as we know it.

You're reading If USA breaks up then I am confused what is the difference between the great depression of 1920's that did not divide up USA, and the present financial chaos that could break up America in small nations? God bless USA.
