    I started driving in April, 1964 and I think gas was about 28 cents/gallon then.

    Oh, did you have to remind me? I think it was about 30 cents a gallon, in the sixties. Even allowing for inflation, it has mushroomed tremendously. No-one thought anything about making cross-country trips on any holiday or on summer breaks. Gone are the days.
