You're reading I use my personal vehicle from time to time for work. Can I deduct those miles from my taxes? I also purchased a GPS, because I dont know the roads here in missouri and I drive about 3k miles a month for work. Can I deduct that as well?

The problem is that those work miles will fall into the part of Schedule A that is subject to 2% of your income. So, you must FIRST itemize and then the mileage must exceed 2% of your income. The GPS unit will be put on a depreciation schedule and, basically, deduct 1/7th of the work portion of it each year for 7 years.
You would be much better off to have the employer put you on an 'accountable' plan and reimburse you for the mileage! it's a win/win for both of you! the business gets the deduction and you do not have to claim any income!
