I've heard that canker sores in the mouth are caused by oral herpes. What if I were to give my partner oral? Would this orally transmit herpes and in turn give her genital herpes?

Do you realize that these are two different strands of the virus?

A canker sore IN the mouth or mouth ulcer in the mouth is not caused by herpes.

However, a COLD sore on the lips, or at the corner of the mouth, IS herpes - usually the herpes virus hsv-1. Any blistering on the lip is herpes, and sores on the lips are nearly always caused by a herpes outbreak. Splitting at the corner of the mouth is often a herpes outbreak - they can be extremely mild.

What we call a 'cold sore' is oral herpes - and CAN be transmitted to a partner's genitals and in turn give them genital herpes. 80% of adults have mouth herpes - and it can be transmitted to a partner in between cold sores when no symptoms are present.

If the herpes hsv-1 virus is passed from the mouth to a partner's genitals, it causes genital herpes hsv-1 in the recipient, which is milder than genital hsv-2 (the other herpes virus) but IS still genital herpes.

I have genital herpes hsv-1, caught from my partner giving me oral sex. He caught cold sores as a small child through being kissed by an relative, and got occasional cold sores, but did not have one at the time he infected me.

You need to look up the symptoms and be sure of the distinction between a cold sore and a canker sore.
