You're stereotyping an entire type of dog. My parents have a rott and it wouldn't hurt a fly. Sorry about your dog but it's not because the other dogs were rottweillers. It's because their owner raised them to be aggressive.

Its just that a**holes tend to purchase Rotties and Pits as a status symbol and dont have a clue as to how to train them. That is why they get the bad name. Its not the dogs fault, Its the morons raising them. MY heart goes out to you and Your older dog but dont be mad at the dogs, Be mad at their owners.

oh & also my 9 year old son was also there to witness this lovely christmas day attack on his pet dog. our dog is an old cross collie who has never ever even been snarled at by another dog. we just turned the corner to the local shop when honest to god they just FLEW at her. I have never seen anything so horrendeous & the noise of both my dog and my son screaming will live with me forever. Thankfully these dogs HAVE BEEN DESTROYED as the police were called by one of the dozen witnesses who were also traumatised by this horrendeous attack. Yeah, these dogs wouldnt hurt a fly - COME AND PAY MY £600+ VET BILL AND PACIFY MY SON AND DOG WITH THAT COMMENT. Do not try and make this breed out to be as gentle as lambs cause they bloody well are not.

My partners best friend had a rott for about 12 years. This dog was incredibly sweet. They had three other dogs, several cats, and a pet duck at one point and he never harmed any of them nor their three daughters. He was incredibly protective of his family and there home, but no person had anything to fear from this animal as long as his family welcomed that person into the home. They also took him out on walks and never had any problems with him. In 12 years, they never had to deal with a single attack on a person or animal. Unfortunately, due to severe health conditions, they had to have him put to sleep just before Thanksgiving. His 13 year old daughter (who grew up with the dog) was devastated. It's not the breed as a whole that is to blame, it's the owners. I had two dogs get into my yard many years ago and kill my cat. Neither of them were "vicious" breeds. I've also encountered pits and dobermans that are loving and well behaved. The owners of those two dogs that hurt yours deserve to be beaten.

I'm sorry for what happened to your dog, I hope she recovers quickly without any side effects. However, I have owned a rottie before. And I would own one again. they are majestic dogs who are noble and protective. You cant attack the entire breed for 2 bad seeds. When owning a dog such as rotties, pit bulls, etc, they do need the proper training and the right owner. Not everyone, IMO, is the right type of person to own breeds like this. Again, I am sorry about your dog but blame the owner not the dog. Or the breed.

If it had been a couple of collies who attacked your dog, would you then rail against that breed? How 'bout St. Bernards? Dobermans? German Shepherds? Yorkies? Come on... I understand your pain... The dogs attacked yours, you, your son, and others witnessed the attack. This in itself is bad enough. THEN, when the cops came, did they witness the dogs being put down, or did the cops take the dogs somewhere to be put to sleep? (I've witnessed a cat put down by a cop shooting it... That was pretty damn traumatic in itself!) Again, I understand, but you cannot blame a whole breed for the actions of two. You CAN (and should) blame the owners, and sue them for your dog's vet bills. (You may be able to get "pain and suffering", too, but better talk to a lawyer.) Blaming a whole breed of animal for the actions of one, or even a few, is akin to blaming a race, religion, sexual orientation, etc., for the actions of one or two. You state is like the wife of a "peedo saying he's a lovely man". Do you blame ALL men for HIS actions? I doubt it (though there are many women who do try to blame the entire population of men because one guy "did them wrong"). Sue the owners, and stay away from Rottweilers if you don't like them. But don't blame them all because of these two.

Thank you all for your replies - apart from SnortinMercury who I think expects me to now apologise for 'slandering' rotties. I so wonder how he would feel if this had of happened to him/her. I do understand what you are all saying re. the owners being the perpetrators, but this is all still so raw and devastating to me. I so agree with raindancer re. "never saying these dogs would never hurt a fly" as out of all breeds of dogs these have the highest statistics of attacks. I love my dog to bits and it has just been so heartbreaking to see this attack, never mind having my wee boy with me when it happened. Thank you again for your construtive replies and I hope none of you ever have to post a story like mines.

Sorry to hear that. I had one and she was very mean, intentionally. There was no way in hell you could let her out off of a leash. I had her for guarding my place out in the country where we had a lot of burglaries. I never got hit!! :)

I don't know what the story is here but keep your dogs contained. PERIOD!
