College rankings are different. but FWIW :

    Lou Holtz
1970, the Holtz-led William & Mary Tribe won the Southern Conference title and played in the Tangerine Bowl.
1972, Holtz moved to North Carolina State University - four bowl games, winning two, losing one, and tying one.
1977, University of Arkansas - Orange Bowl against the Oklahoma Sooners.
1984, University of Minnesota - Independence Bowl, where they defeated Clemson University.
1988, Notre Dame - defeated the third-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers, 34-21, in the Fiesta Bowl, claiming the NCAA Division I FBS National Football Championship. Ranked #2 1989
2000, 2001 University of South Carolina, Outback Bowl.

Paul Bear Bryants 1950 Kentucky team was retroactively named co-national champions of that season by the NCAA in 2005. Bryant then went on of course to win multilple national championships with his powerhouse Crimson Tide squads of the 60's and 70's.
