  • Are you gonna be surprised! at least 50% are also returning students.
  • You shouldn't feel ashamed or embarrassed. You should feel proud! My grandmother went back for her Bachelors degree when she was in her 60s. The kids on campus loved her!
  • No problem, there are tons of different ages going to college these days....You'll do fine!!!!
  • Oh please I'm 47 and some of my professors are only 25 go back to school - It makes me think what I was like when I was 18 and then I just laugh - besides they don't care they are there for the same reason, to get a better job/career/self improvemnt. And before you ask -yes I do remember being 18 and 29 and..... lol!!!
  • Oh, God! Don't! Be proud of yourself! I just turned 32 and I didn't START college until I was 27! I felt a little like you do but I was shocked at who was sitting next to me! Sure some of the 18yr olds were annoying but there were so many people my age and even older. There was a 60 year old lady in one class! Now, if she doesn't feel silly, you certainly shouldn't! lol It's actually a pretty nice feeling that it is so diverse but we are all there for the same purpose- to advance ourselves. Go be all you can be! :) You'd always regret it if you didn't. Good luck!
  • Hey I did it, and I had tons of friends. Go and don't be self concious. You're there for a degree, remember that!
  • Frank...I was older than you when I went back to school, almost old enough to be some of the students mother. The first semester was a bit of culture shock, but if anything I feel younger now than when I started. Yes, I'm still in school. There's lots of "non-traditional" students on campus these days. I promise, you'll be FINE :)
  • Use your confidence of those eleven extra years of life's experience and the young uns will come asking your advice, give it freely but not arrogantly and you will get along well :o)
  • You will find many people of your age taking evening classes after their jobs. You should only feel ashamed if you are mooching off of someone else in order to go to college.
  • I have classmates around that age, and we (the younger ones) are actually jelaous of them many times, because of their life experience. They're able to understand things better, to come up with real life examples... When we have to do group work, everybody wants to be with them!
  • Usually the older students are seen as pretty cool to hang out with/do homework with etc. One word of caution I have seen some older students try to totally brown nose and suck up like crazy. Nothing will drive the other students away like that.
