Do you download music? do you think it is stealing?

I download it, but if i listen to it more than a couple times I buy the album. I try to limit my stealing.

I do download, and no I don't think it is stealing, I spend a large amount of money on cds, and I usually use downloading to sample a band or a particular album, it is almost impossible to find an entire album, especially one of cd quality, so I really don't feel it hurts sales too much. Maybe for the one hit wonders, but I don't buy those cds any ways, if anything, I think it forces the music industry to step up the quality of an album, keeping it strong enough to sell and not just download.

Yes, I download music nearly everyday. And yes it is literally stealing, but oh well. At least 7/10 people with internet connection download music.

Stealing? No, that's just stupid semantics that the industry have created in order to defend their wealth.
Then the guilt of a crappy economy started weighing in on me. Only a small portion of the money spent downloading music legally is used to pay the artist. The rest, I imagine, can be used to pay for jobs.

Yes I download music, and No I don't consider it stealing. As a professional musician myself, I put all of my music online for anyone to download for free, long before it became popular to download music.

When my listeners downloaded the music, they could then listen to it, decide whether they liked it, provide feedback and then go and buy the album if they liked it enough.

I found that by allowing listeners to download my music for free, it led to a large increase in sales of my music because it allowed more people to get to know it rather than risk buying something they were unsure of.

I also feel that I don't pay anything for the inspiration and desire to write and play the music. It is a pleasure and a gift for me to do so, so why should I charge others for something that I not only get for free, but provides me with such pleasure to do? If others choose to listen and share in my music, which is almost always extremely personal to me and my emotions and feelings at the time of writig it, then I considered it to be a compliment and honour to give them my music for free.

I feel the same about other peoples' music. If they are true musicians, then they play whether they get paid for it or not, simply for the pleasure of playing and writing new music. If I download a track or album, then I will listen to it, then that will help me to make a decision whether I wish to go and then buy the music properly, so once again, by my downloading music, it increased the likelihood of me buying the music in a shop. It was like a form of advertising if you like.

Those artists that moan so much about downloading cutting down on their income tend to be crap musicians that rely more on hype than talent and love of the music itself. They see music as a business rather than an artform, so don't deserve the money anyway.

Before there was this thing called downloading music, we use to record music off the radio using a cassette recorder, that wasn't stealing, why is this different?

I download music, but Only of music that I already have. I have it on Records which I dont have a record player anymore because it died. That was the original intended purpose for P2P music dling was for backup for you material that could be damaged or can no longer access.

Yes I download. No it's not stealing, it's more freeloading. It's the difference between getting a bus ride without paying a ticket, or stealing the bus itself - in the latter case, the driver is left one bus short.

Yes, I often download music over some type of P2P network. While I know that technically I am stealing, I'm really only stealing from the record companies. The actual artists that made the music get very little money when you buy a CD. If there was a way for me to buy music and have 100% of that money go directly to the artist, I would do it in a heartbeat. I guess that's not going to happen so I'll just continue download music illegaly along with millions of others.

I do occasionally off of purevolume or myspace if the band themselves do, sometimes other places too. I know it's stealing. :/

Heh, they closed down napster after all, although there are other programs such as Limewire and such, but they were just trying to make a point. But if it is a crime (which it is), it is the one crime that is being comitted by the youngest ages then. I am sure a bunch of cops are watching these kinds of posts hoping and waiting that someone will say they download music, so they can go after them or something (just a thought).

Not really..The music I listen here in my PC comes from the original album and they are my fave CDs so there's no point for me to download music since all my faves are already in here. Ü

Downloading music is no where near stealing! First lets define stealing:

Stealing is:depriving someone of a good or service that they own. (or something to that effect)

downloading music:You download it, but would have bought it anyway?

Personally I download music, and if I like it, I buy the CD's. Why? Because I know I can't get all the songs online, and because I want to support the artists (not the industry, the industry is total sh*t, the artists however deserve every cent)
