  • Absolutely! Have you done any research into the bipolar personality? This is very common in a bipolar persons personality. The swing from 'love' to 'hate', 'happy' to 'sad','energized' to 'disheartened',the extremes vary from situation to situation, but almost all bipolar sufferers will agree with this description. The 'abuse' isn't exactly directed at the 'spouse'(or anyone in specific) it is an outlet for the changing moods the person is experiencing. This is why mood altering medications are prescribed, monitored and changed with time for the therapeutic effects of them to be corrected. The need for medications has me aware of my 'triggers' (or red flags) and the responses I have when these things occur.Only with years of therapy and medication changes(many, many changes over the past 12 years or so)am I at a point where I can add to questions like these with any authority. If this question is about your spouse(or even a friends spouse) seek further information about bipolar disorder treatments and diagnoses on the web, they are a dime a dozen,if your really interested you will find what you are looking for.
