For hunters: I know we need hunters, and there's nothing wrong w/ it, but I've never understood the attraction of sport hunting. I do understand wanting to get away from civilization and do something primal - is it kind of related to that?

It's a legal way to fulfill a psychopathic yearning to inflict pain on others. But of course no hunters would admit to that!

beyond survival i think hunting for sport is the most horrible thing ever. no offense but its horrible and wasteful.

People tend to forget that for the first couple million years mankind was around, we were hunters. It's only been a relatively short time, historically, that we've been heavily involved in agriculture (say six or seven thousand years). So "hunting" is a survival trait that is in our genes. But the real issue really boils down to those who feel their personal views on "hunting" should be honored and those whose personal views support hunting should be "punished". If one wants to hunt, and does so, there is no morality involved; hunting is neither good nor bad. But some are anxious to rush to judgment and find moral imperatives in every aspect of daily life. I'm afraid of those people. I like hunters.
