not for "extra" money, but when i was young and unemployed and to pay rent, i did pawn somethings that i knew i could live without.. it really sucks but you have to do things that suck sometimes to survive. i didn't have family who i could borrow from and i wanted to exhaust all options before trying to borrow from friends. luckily i didn't have to!

One time I did that, NEVER AGAIN!
I pawn a 35mm Petre camera, just to have some money for that weekend. I was in the Army, at Ft. Lee, VA. I had just finished RIGGER school, and would be going to another base in a few days. I thought the army would give me some 'travel money' and tell me to get there. They didn't! There was quite a few going to Ft. Bragg, NC
so, they charted a bus to take us there.
I almost cried, when the bus drove right on through that town, where my camera sat, waiting for me to come get it.
I never saw that camera again.
I pawned it for $25
