Just wait. The way things are going we might have almost 50 candidates from whom to narrow things down! You also have the option to write in a vote.

If there were 50 options to vote for, how would either of them get an absolute majority? You would have to have rounds of votes... which would get complicated, long-winded and expensive. ----- A better answer is this: It's just the American system.

Each party has many candidates. The "primaries" are held to choose ONE candidate that will represent that "party" in the final elections. And no... there are more "parties" but only the most recognized parties are on the ballot. Eg: Democrat, Republican, Independant, etc. There is also a blank space for other, where you can write in ANYONES name that qualifies to be president and has applied for that position. Otherwise your vote will be tossed away for that category.
