  • Though I am not specifically an expert on this truck, I can say that MOST fuel injected vehicles have the fuel pump inside the gas tank.
  • Most, well almost all, fuel pumps are located in the fuel tank. It is a fairly large job. You have to drop down the gas tank. But if your vehicle is still running, the chances that it is your fuel pump is slim. Usually when they go, they go without warning. Your vehicle will not start nor drive in this case. I would suggest that you check all your O2 (oxygen) censors, most auto parts stores will help you locate them. It could also be your fuel pressure regulator. When it is running, have you noticed any unusual odors such as excessive exhaust or the smell of gas ? Have you been getting less mileage per gallon? If so it could be your fuel pressure regulator. They cost anywhere between $45-$90 (I paid $45+ tax at an Auto Zone in Rhode Island). It is located under the exhaust manifold on the left side. If this is the problem, gas will be leaking and you will most likely see a puddle of gas resting in the bottom of the manifold. If you find a puddle of gas, you should also change the oil and spark plugs again. Good luck!
  • Most all vehicles of this era have 2 fule pumps, primary and secondary. One DOES mount ontop of the fuel tanks and requires dropping the tank to replace (big job) but hte other is external and should be somewhere along the frame. You can find it by folowing the gas lines fromthe engine or the tank. But if it is running, as mentioned in anohter answer, it is probably not the pump. A bad pump will prevent a vehicle from starting at all. It could however be going bad and the pressure from the pump is too low. But that would be noticed all through driving, not just starting. Pump pressure can be tested. Are you sure it is the fuel system and not the battery or charger? Does it crank slow? Have the battery charged or checked and see if that helps.
  • Probably not fuel pump but your cam sensor located under the distributor cap and rotor. It literally is mounted under the rotor itself and you have to take off the distrib. and tortor to replace. It is $30 AT aUTO ZONE. i WOULD RENT THE obd II CODE READER FROM THEM FIRST AND MAKE SURE YOU ARE GETTING THE RIGHT CODE BEFORE YOU REPLACE A BUNCH OF STUFF. CODE #P01340 or Misfire/Ignition?? It is free to rent just a $150 deposit that is refundable. I would also replace your distrib and rotor while your there since you have them off. You will need a star nut driver size 10 and 20 for the job that is all. A small bendable mirror works great for the star screw on the back side of the distrib. cap. Good Luck
  • yes and no, if you have a lift its easy if not well its a paon but can be done, your fuel pump os inside the tank, un hook the batery drain the fuel and disconect all fuel lines and electric lines to the tank and then theres two strap take only one side down that is the easiest to do and then the tank will drop. take the tank out and on top of it will be the pump that is inside...
