Here is what is going on: "Two Labour MPs have tabled a Commons motion calling for former Celtic manager Jock Stein to be awarded a posthumous knighthood. Jim Devine and David Marshall said Stein should be honoured "properly" for helping Celtic become the first British side to win the European Cup. Stein also won 10 Scottish League titles, nine Scottish cups, and six Scottish League Cups. He collapsed and died while managing Scotland against Wales at age 62". As to why not knighted yet, I believe it is because he was a Scots and we are supposed to be second class citizens which absolutely bothers me. Regards.

There were plans for him to be knighted, but due to violence in the World Club Championships in Uruguay his name was removed from the New Year's Honours List at the last minute. It's worth bearing in mind that the civil servants involved didn't want to be seen accepting violence, and had no real idea about Celtic, in that it's generally regarded that the violence on their part was not a regular occurrence and in this case provoked (it wasn't even limited to the players -- the journalists started brawling too). Celtic had considered pulling out of the match due to the possibility of such an outcome going by previous encounters with Racing, and later on Ajax did pull out for this reason.
