Not once... I've come very close, tho... Like half a gallon in the tank... =P

No, what I do is I look at the Fuel indicator and I check to see when the needle is getting close to the BIG FAT E side of the spectrum. LOL, I've never understood how people run out of gas-unless maybe their indicator was broken, or they found themselves on a long stretch of road with nothing on it!

Never done it myself, but a friend did. Just sputtered and stopped. As a side note, having a low fuel tank is bad for the fuel pump. When the tank is 1/2 full or more, the gas cools the fuel pump. When it's low, all that heat just keeps coming and there is nothing to cool it. That's how fuel pumps break. It's more expensive to run it on E than to just keep it topped up.

Nope, I am daring but not nuts... I would have to get out and walk, that would not be any fun.
-
lol yeah cause my gauge lied.lol

Oh man, running out of fuel is one of my greatest fears...I very rarely let the gage get past half empty.

I have. Had a Buick Regal that the gauge never worked in. I was usually pretty good at using the trip odo to track fuel but someone must have reset it. Car was fine. Besides being bad for the fuel pump because of cooling (as mentioned), it's also not great for the fuel filter as all the crap near the bottom of the tank is sucked up and pumped through the filter to your engine. Man, I so do NOT miss that car.

Yes at 3:00am after a 12 hour shift on my feet all day. I had to walk about 2 miles to get to my house. My ex husband assured me we had enough gas to make it home. I cussed him the whole 2 miles home.

No, my father told me never to let the gas get below 1/4 tank. He ran out of gas once when the gauge read 1/4.

After driving my car with a low fuel chime and warning I had a company car with just a gage. Never thought about it untill it sputtered on the expressway 5 miles from anything at 10 below zero F. Thanks Mr. State trooper. I don't run my tank that low any more, If i fill up at 1/2 tank and spend 28 dollars it feels much better than waiting on empty and spending 50+.

Once. It was payday but my direct deposit hadn't cleared yet so I had to try making it about 17 miles to pick up my wife in town on a gallon of gas. I forgot about how steep that hill was, put my foot in it a little much, and sputtered. A mile later, I was parked on the side of the road. The moral of the story? Given a choice between food and gas, starve yourself before you starve the car ;)
