Just as you cannot tell your landlord to take the money to fix damages out of the rent I paid over the last year, the same is true for damages caused by your pet. You are responsible of any damage (besides normal wear and tear). Repairs for that damage come out of any deposits you paid, and you are liable for any additional costs.
