Why do Q-Tips tell you not to stick them in your ears if that's the only reason people buy them? Are they just covering their butts? Or do they actually think there's another use for them?

They are not for INSIDE your ears, they are for the folds and nooks and crannies around your ears on the front side. Plus you can use them for all sorts of things.

There are plenty of other used for Q-Tips, for which they are intended. They should NOT be poked into ears, and they are not intended for doing so. The changes of damaging the ear are much too high. They a a small bit of captive cotton wool on a stick, useful for carefully wiping small areas. People use them for picture restoration, to clean small areas. I have used them for cleaning tape heads.
