Wow er...that's a whole lotta years. >_> Potatoes can last pretty long, but they do have a limit, and maybe they're still good at that point, but if they started growing roots I'd be like, ew.

as long as they are fairly firm, and are not green, they will be ok - but they will eventually go soft, and then start to sprout - if they start to sprout simple pop them ina hole in the ground and grow yourself some new potatoes! Tip to keep your potatoes for longer - do not keep them in a plastic bag!!! Keep them in a paper or cotton sack, which has been closed over (to keep them dark) and in a cool place. That way they will last for longer

Potatoes which are whole and still have their skin can last in the refrigerator for several weeks, or more. Some purists insist that they don't taste as good after being in the fridge, but I can't tell the difference.

I've seen potatoes go bad after a few months. So to answer your question, no, potatoes do not last a very long time.

They sometimes go soft, but if they sprout just cut the sprouts of and eat them. They won't last forever but they last a while
