Can guinea pigs live in communities?? do the same sex fight?

It is possible to keep guinea pigs in colonies but it's very labor intensive and often they do fight. Plus there is unrestricted mating and often they will mate too early and too often. It's just too much hassle.

I don't thing guinea pigs are social creatures... They may live in families, but I think that's about the extent of it.

And yeah, males would fight for females in the wild if it came down to it.
