That is an interesting question. I think this might be true in a sense, but not exactly. The Buddha's teachings were significantly different from Hinduism, but they were related. In the same way, Jesus was Jewish when he died, but his teachings expanded on those of traditional Judaism.
No, not at all. Many people became Buddhists during the Buddha's life time and he most certainly did not become a Hindu. He taught that all belief systems are forms of delusion and his teachings were not built on, nor a sort of reformation of existing beliefs, including the Brahminic ones of his time (strictly speaking Hinduism as a distinct religion didn't come about until long after the Buddha died). He was careful to set out exactly why he repudiated those teachings and all forms of belief in many Sutras that he left behind and he was clear that his followers not consider him a reincarnation of any deity or supernatural being and that the practices he set out not be confused with any other belief system.
If everyone reached enlightenment and were no longer reborn like in the buddhist faith wouldn't the world cease to exist

Why do Buddhists shave their heads? Rather than being a sign of humility, is this not MORE image-conscious, because of the effort required?

Comments
Budha was a Hindu and he studied Hinduism and found something which he thought woudl be nice to have it differently based on the environment he lived in. So he took a lot from Hindu and corrected some fo them according to his thinking.
Hindu religion permits acriticism and athiests can live in Hindu. Budhism originated from Hindu. There are several religions like Sikh, Jainism etc originated from Hindu.
