Snickers was the name of the Mars family horse. When that horse died they named a candy bar after it.

In the UK when I was a kid, it was called a Marathon, but changed it's name to Snickers for some reason in the late 1980s. So it's a Marathon, always has been and always will be, and if you ask for a Marathon, most shop assistants know what you mean. I know i haven't answered the question, I just felt the need for a rant. The end.

Snickers candy bar was named after a horse owned by the owner of the candy company!

i have boycotted Snickers ever since they changed their name from marathon and will continue to do so until they change it back.
