Just reading your question makes me think you just got something stuck in your tongue. But, using a salt water rinse is just that. Warm salty water. That's an old fashioned remedy for cuts & stuff, but it does sting.

Your question[ if I can call it that] leads me to belive that you may have unwittingly had your brain pierced, why oh why, would anyone[over the age of 12] want to pierce their tongue?

No no no no no!!! Everyone here is wrong, you can NOT just use any old table salt when trying to heal a wound, particularly in your mouth. You need IODINE FREE sea-salt (usually found in any food or drug store and comes as a grinder). You need to mix 1/4 teaspoon with 8 oz of warm water and soak or swish the mixture around your piercing for several minutes 2-3 times a day. Table salt is added to food for taste, it won't do anything for a piercing!

DO NOT use listerine. It can cause the healing process to slow down. Use an alcohol-free mouth wash. Also, you may use salt water. what you do is fill a small glass with warm water and add salt, gargle in your mouth for about 30 seconds and spit. Do this a couple times a day. It will help the healing process.

If you were to study acupuncture you would avoid piercings at all cost. Because you will be slowly but surly destroying your organs, randomly, dependant on what energy meridians you block.

Personally, I don't know why someone would want to get their tongue pierced. However, to prevent infection, you should rinse it periodically with just plane old ordinary salt water (i.e. an aqueous solution of sodium chloride (table salt dissolved in water). When I was a child I had a miss hap which injured the inside of my cheek and that is what the doctor told me to do to prevent infection. I don't now know what concentration you should use, but it should probably be something that come close to having as much salt as the water can hold and I would not recommend actually swallowing the salt water. It will probably make you sick if you do.

I'm pretty sure that you can just use table salt and water, That;s what my friends do, and they hven't had any infections, theres no harm in trying, just don't use too much or it'll REALLY hurt.

No you do not use regular table salt it must be an iodine free salt they prefer that you use sea salt soaks on all piercings to prevent or clear up infection regular table salt will not do that for a piercing I also used listerine mouth rinse three times daily I have no pain no bumps no infection and my tongue has completely healed

go to your local supermarket and get sea salt from the spice aisle, is should be in a grinder thing like pepper corns come in and use that. just grind about 5 times and put it in a cup of warm water, and rinse with it and rinse with clean water after to make sure there is no salt crystals in your pericing. use the nasty mouth wash no flavor or anything in it bec the falvored kind have sugar in them be/c the sugar will cause your tounge to swell and cause an infection in your pericing, because it will allow yeast to grow there and that is not something that you want to grow in your mouth.

    use sea salt.
    ONLY SEA SALT.
and if you cant get it use a mouthwash without alcohol.
i cant determine why, but iodized salt is really bad apparently
personally, i just use sea salt because i dont want to find out what happens if i use iodized salt.
AND PS, DONT TAKE ADVICE FROM PEOPLE WHO 1) ARNT' PIERCERS, AND 2) DONT HAVE THE PIERCINGS THEMSELVES.
they dont know what they're talking about

Sea salt is supposed to be better, but it wouldn't kill you to use regular table salt (I know its a home remedy for mouth wounds and stuff) Also I read some other persons comment that said to use listerine...you should DEFIANTLY not do that...It burns AND it actually slows down your healing time...u need to use non alcoholic mouthwash...hope that helps

Use non-iodized sea salt. There was another answer here that said the same thing. Like they said, it does often come in a grinder. Mix 1/4 tsp in 8oz of water and swish it around in your mouth. Just be careful not to over clean it, and be sure to brush your teeth after you eat.
