    Yes, I do.

I said it in grade school once and my father punished me and explained to me that it was offensive to some people.

I have little respect for those that use the term.

Yes, it is offensive. But the issue you are raising is whether Prince Harry should have said it, and in his apology, which appears to have been written for him, it says that he did not say it with malice. So the question you must ask yourself is whether you say it with malice or as a friendly comment, so it seems! The other issue to consider is not whether I would consider it offensive, but whether the person being labelled should find it offensive. If it offends them, then do not use it.

Simmy, I hate to tell you, but you are asking too many question, but are not reading and rating the submitted answers. It is only fair to ask as many questions as you can handle and rate them fairly.

I think we owe it to the ppl those care to reply to our question and have responded to our quest.

Actually Paki is not just an abbreviation.
It is a slur initially used by British press in the 60s to segregate.
Also, used to describe and group all South Asian and South Asian "looking" Middle Easterners.

I am not from Pakistan so I am not offended. It sounds very 1960's pig ignorant though.

It is an offensive term - but the context in which it, or any other derogatory terms is used will affect my understanding of it at the time. For example, I was talking to the man in the shop today, and he referred to himself as a Paki - should I be offended at that? or should I agree with him?

Paki is from pakistan, as a short cut mean "belonging to pakistan".There is also a martial arts style from pakistan called pakido, but the founder of pakido martial arts add the word do from heeragana japnese calligraphy , he also mention the philosphical meaning of this art " way of clean heart warriors."

It's definitely a shortening of Pakistani, but I don't see what's particularly offensive about it or why it would be considered offensive. Today's society seems to shorten a lot of words and phrases in this way.
