She went by the name Ms. Squib and she was a portly middle-aged white woman with long brown hair- a couple of grayish-silver strands tossed in there- and she had a son who wore a rat tail on the back of his head. He even put little beads on the end of the braid, lol. And this was...I don't even know how many years ago...

  • Yes, and she still teaches Kindergarten at the same school. However, when I was in Kindergarten, Mrs. Katie Wieters was a "student-teacher" from the university I go to now, a kind of teaching assistant when Mrs. Janice Sanborn was the teacher. She passed away the following summer (of 1991) due to cancer, and it made sense to officially hire Mrs. Wieters as the interim Kindergarten teacher on such short notice. (Usually, the interim teacher still teaches the same class while the college student-teaching assistant usually goes on to get hired at a different school.) Here is her page, with her photo. She will be turning 41 on February 5th. http://usd473.net/Dist_Homepage/faculty/Elementary/Chapman/WietersK/index.htm

  • Her name was Mrs. Bruce. Back in the late 50's-early 60's an Afro-American woman for both a part time kindergarten teacher as well as the school principal was very rare! She was a heavy set lady, with lovely black hair and a large mouth with really nice teeth and a warm smile. She helped me make my first "hand print" in clay to give to my mother. I liked her alot and I still have my report card from Kindergarten. My mother saved it and left it with alot of other sentimental things which I got after she died. I am glad I had such a great woman to be my first experience in the educational system, since some later on were not so great.

They usually had a baloney sandwich, bag of chips, and an apple or orange in the sack. It was half-way thru 1st grade before they started cooking lunches.
