I think it is an absolute waste of Kentucky taxpayer's money. The state government is spending millions of dollars on stadiums, while the Kentucky education system is failing and teachers remain severely underpaid.
Being Vegan, I'm sickened that it's coming here. I don't encourage the use of animals for food, clothing, vivisection (experiments), or entertainment. I think it's great if people ride horses, many horses enjoy that company with their owners. But for it to be a sport is ridiculous. Personally, I am not supporting it. Just as I am not supporting the 2010 winter olympics in Vancouver, seeing as how Cananda supports the mass slaughter of young seals.
I beleive that the upcoming games will help the lexington buisnesses flourish. And the comment on "wasting taxpayers money", the stadiums basically pay for themselves. You have ot put in accountability of tickets, refreshments and parking costs for the attendants of the venues in the stadiums.
The games will bring in tourist money and money from advertisers that wish to take advantage of this event. The money spent is an investment for a better future for the state's economy and Lexington's infrastructure upgrades will be a good thing, also.
I'd like to go. I haven't been to one since they held it in Tampa when I eight.

The Equestrian games will bring much needed tourist dollars into the sagging economy and help finance the education system. It's called investing in the future, not just sitting back and crying about how bad things are. These games coming to the state will bring in a good bunch of money from tourism and advertisement. It will also establish Lexington as a city of interest to the world, much like the Olympics do for the cities in which they are held.

I strongly disagree. The money being spent is going to vastly outweigh the money brought in in the long run. Just look at the last few cities to host the Olympics. All of them wound up with economic shortfalls due to the games. Especially given the economy at the current time, I don't think Lexington is going to receive as many visitors as they think they will. Not to mention, I am tired of this state wasting taxpayers money on the horse industry. This is like throwing money down a well. The horse industry is a dying industry. Just look at the numbers posted by Keenelands last two meets. It is time for Kentucky to invest money in a more viable form of tourism.
