Question

Help answer this question below.

I have been asked by my 3rd grader's teacher to read aloud for 15-20 minutes. I'd like to read a 'holiday' book that will not offend the different beliefs at this time, but can't find an appropriate book for this age and time fram

    Here are a few...

    Snow
    http://www.amazon.com/Snow-Cynthia-Rylant/dp/0152053034/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1229364286&sr=1-3
celebrates children and their love for snow in this delightful story. Full of language that makes you slow down and take notice, this is a gorgeously illustrated book that pays tribute not only to snow, but to togetherness and diversity, and the joy of being present in the moment.

A Wish for Wings that Work
    http://www.amazon.com/Wish-Wings-That-Work-Christmas/dp/0316106917
A young penguin wishes he could fly. It is really touching. It does mention Santa, but it's non-religious.

    Polar Express
    http://www.amazon.com/Polar-Express-Chris-Van-Allsburg/dp/0395389496
This book is extremely popular because it's so well-done. It's a great story and also has amazing illustrations. Once again, it also mentions Santa but is non-denominational.

How about the real story of Thanksgiving. Is that offensive?

Hmmm...if it has to be a holiday book, I can't help. One book that I've had GREAT success with at my kids school was "Lily's Purple Plastic Purse", by Kevin Henkies. My daughter is 15, and her friends STILL come up to me and remind me of how I read to them when they were little.
