I rarely ask questions, because there are already plenty of good questions being asked by others to "drive" the conversation.

Also, if I need specific information on a topic, I find Google to be more helpful than Answerbag most of the time.

- Yeah, I'd have to agree with that. A lot of the answers on here are shady at best (not that there aren't good ones.) You kind of have to already know something about the answer to be able to screen the good from the bad.

- I think the problem is that the good questions are mixed in with so much fluff because of the rating system, myself. When you encourage volume-for-points, it turns the noise level way up. My solution is to pick a smart friend and follow them around, responding to the questions they've taken. It's sort of like ducks flying south and using the leader's slipstream to provide a little lift! :-)

My guess is that some people would simply rather answer than ask. (There are others around this site who would rather ask than answer.) Hopefully, some people who never post questions will answer this one!

Aside from the other answers, maybe some people are afraid their question may be misconstrued and therefore ridiculed.

This place is called ANSWERbag, so maybe some people are more into sharing answers than asking questions just to ask something. I ask when I am interested in something or something fun perhaps, but not very often. I prefer to go to categories where I think I can answer questions and try to help out others. SOme people are better at asking questions. It takes all kinds for AB to work and all kinds of people are attracted to this place.

I'm sure there is an endless string of personal reasons. Some people would rather be a helper than the helpee, others might have a strong desire to be heard and voice their opinions. I think it's easier to answer questions than ask them, alot of times coming up with a good question is tough, but answering questions generally comes to you fairly quickly and easily if it's a question you know a little something about, or atleast think you know.

I think it is the fear of not wording the question properly,or it not being accepted and receive negative points,or not being answered at all.It is unfortunate that very good questions,well thought out ,are not answered.But so it is in answerbag.

I don't often ask questions because many that I would ask have already been asked, and others that I ask are very specialised and bring one, or maybe two answers. I also get quite upset if I ask what I think is a sensible question and I get stupid answers, or trolls who feel the need to be obnoxious. If I choose to answer a question then I am choosing to have my answer challenged, but if I ask a question I dislike the question being challenged. I therefore don't ask many questions.

- I certainly understand that. I am very pleased that there are people who have questions, many of which are questions I would ask, but are phrased better. I am glad I have an opportunity to share my knowledge and my thoughts and feelings and beliefs with others. I would mourn the passing of this site as much as anyone, apart from maybe the staff. I just don't feel the need to ask questions like "How are you feeling today" when "How can we achieve lasting world peace" still has to be answered satisfactorily.

I hardly ask a question and the thing is I'll not ask a "what are you feeling now?" type of questions. I have a rate of 79 answers for every question I ask. I guess I enjoy answering more than asking.

Perhaps they think they have all the answers. Or perhaps after seeing the majority of questions and realize they're beyond trivial and ridiculous,they don't want to be grouped with all the other losers that apparently have little to nothing going on upstairs,(like,"How do you like your eggs prepared?".Who could possibly care? And how could it possibly matter-to anyone!? Not picking on anyone, there are literally thousands of such idiotic questions bombarding this site!) I ask very few questions,not because I'm not interested in what people think,rather because when I do,I find most people are so rabidly hostile and reactionary,uninformed,(or both),that it's not worth the trouble.
