In Superman Returns, how could Richard White (played by James Marsden) think he is the father of Lois Lane's baby when she would have been with Superman nine months earlier? Is this not a major plot flaw in the movie, or is Lois Lane that promiscuous?

Don't think that Richard White ever said that the baby was his, but married Lois as a single mum. Need to rewatch to make sure though.

As I understand it, "Superman Returns" takes place five years after the events of "Superman II." Jason White is almost 6 years old. This means that Superman left Earth almost immediately after "Superman II" Lois, who became pregnant from a single sexual encounter with an un-super Clark Kent (he gave up his powers to be with her)* had to have known she was pregnant when she began her relationship with Richard White. It had to be fairly quick, because Richard thinks he's Jason's father. Which means that Lois deliberately tricked a rich man into raising her child. She is an unprincipled b-word! *The fact that Clark was un-super when he slept with Lois may explain why Jason is sickly and only sporadically super.
