As long as he is not cursing at me, I don't care if it is not continuous and loud and right in my face. As long as I can do my work and it doesn't bother my concentration, he can talk in Chinese or Swahili all day long. Being self employed also helps.
-
I dont think it is needed in a work envroment and I would ask to him to quit talking like that around me.
-
As long as he wasn't cursing at people, or in front of clients/customers/etc., then no, I don't think it would bother me. I wouldn't do anything about it.
-
Yes it would bother me and I would let him know in as tactful way as I could that I found his abusive language offensive. if that meant losing my position so be it but i am good at my work so I doubt that would happen or that my boss would be guilty of offensive language. I am not saying he does not get mad and curse occassionally just not as a regular way of conversing
-
My boss does...so do I. I don't really worry about it.

I'm the Boss. I'm hard pressed to keep up with the language my employees use at work. There is no real customer interaction on our work sites so what they say or how they say it, has no impact on me unless they are using the 2 way radios. Can't cuss when using them, I could get my license lifted.
-
It would offend me and I would tell him that it was not necessary in the workplace. If he refused to quit using such language then I would quit.
-
My 'boss' swears alll the time, and I just sort of ignore it
-
It would because it would violate our code of conduct. He could be reprimanded for it, up to and including dismissal. As for my particular boss at this time, I doubt very much that I have to worry about it - he is not the swearing/cursing/coarse language type.

To maintain a sense of professionalism, I would say that as a boss of a company (or wherever you work) he should be displying himself in a more manner befitting his position. It may not bother YOU, but it may bother those who would never do a thing about it. Consult your employee manual upon being hired under "codes of conduct." If he isn't adhering to his own codes? If something really bothers you it will only get worse.

My boss does curse at work on a daily basis. So do all of the other employees, including myself. Indirectly, it's one of the reasons I work where I do; it's a very laid-back atmosphere, and most of the cursing is done in a fashion that still promotes respect (it seems like kind of an oxymoron, but we understand the concept here). I'm very sure if anyone here was offended by the cursing, they could tell the owners and something would be done to cut down on the bad language.

Yes it does/did bother me for a very long time whereas I actually moved to another desk for about a week to get away from it and he never would ask me why I had moved, he would go back and forth to see if I was there, but he never asked why. My boss is the type that is on transmit all the time, it is very hard to have a simple conversation with him, he is a drama queen, everything is such a major deal, he's bitter and a very negative person. He also talks very loud...when he is in his office talking with two other male employee's he gets himself all worked up and his voice gets louder and the curse words start flowing (mf,fing, bs, gd, all if it). I had enough, I am stressed out, cringe whenever he opens his mouth and have no desire to really talk to him. I finally just sent an email to let him know that his cursing had just gotten out of hand. Now whether that was the most diplomatic way to handle or tell him I don't know and I don't care,he would not have let me say what I needed to say anyway and would have taken it as a joke and not that serious. It just got to be way too much and just shows a lack of respect.

i'll just ignore it, afterall, i've got paid

Just cursing in general isn't an issue but if the boss was using the cursing as a way to abuse myself or customers then I would say something for sure.

# 1. I am a lady. I do not talk that way and I do not expect to be talked to that way or have to listen to that. #2. I have found that pretty much people treat you the way you treat them. If you don't swear, they won't swear around you. #3. Swearing from a boss is totally unprofessional. I could not work with someone that would disrepect me like that.
