  • I have two females, both spayed, who get along just fine. I had the first one for 3 years before adopting the second one. When I was growing up, we always had at least two cats, always desexed, and there didn't seem to be a difference between males and females in terms of getting along with each other. I guess it depends on the personality of each individual kitty??
  • Also, it's important to introduce the kitties at a slow pace. Ever try putting the newbie in the bathroom, and letting the older cat sniff it through the crack in the door?
  • I have 5 female cats all are spayed and sometimes they hiss and growl but they never really hurt each other. Male cats however like to spray especially when they live with other cats even when they're fixed.
  • I work at a vet's office, and we've always seen the best results with an older female cat and a new male kitten. It seems that owners report all females or all males fighting amongst each other far more often than with female/male groups. And if you get a kitten, the older cat will often feel less threatened, and the younger cat will be more likely to learn it's place without spraying. I personally have 3 female cats right now. Two of them are relatively close in age (2 & 4), and I got them within a month of each other (they were adults when I adopted them). They get along great. My other cat is several years older (10), and she has never accepted either one of the newcomers, even though I got them over a year ago, though she tolerates the younger one way more than the older one.
  • I have a male and a female cat and they get along wonderfully. they play fight all the time (which can be annoying) but they never hurt each other and its all in good fun. they snuggle and generally like each other.
  • I have a female cat (spayed) and when I brought in another female kitten she hid under the bed for about two weeks then learned to accpet her. I recently brought in a male kitten and the older fixed cat tolerates him. He is not yet neutered and i have read a fixed female is turned off by a non-fixed male.
