  • You bet! But it's not about the insults; it's about society's perspective of right and wrong. Joking that someone is, say, a pediophile would be a horrible thing. And, of course, the manner in which the insult is stated matters; when stated in a joking fashion, it's not so insulting. When stated as a serious fact -- people stop laughing. (Which is why you can almost always get by insulting someone as long as you make them laugh while doing it!) But the most offensive insults again aren't about words; the one's that 'get' folks the maddest are usually based upon an ugly or embarassing truth about that person. For some reason, there's something about those truths that upsets the crap outta folks!
