  • OMG! Buy a gun.
  • I've lived in suburbs of Detroit all my life. Hopefully, you don't mean actual Detroit when you say you're moving here. Detroit can be a crime-ridden, scary, ugly place. Suburbs are fine. Oh, and when you get the chance, go up north to Harbor Springs, Mackinac, Taquemenon Falls, Pictured Rocks.
  • A lot of Winter activities are going on. State parks are good in winter and summer. There is going to be a ice sculpture show in Downtown Plymouth on Jan 23, that's fun too. Some links to help you find fun things to do ..... www.michigan.org http://www.visitdetroit.com/
  • If you don't already have a job here, don't bother coming! Otherwise it is a great place to live, have all of the professional sports covered, casino's, summer time boating (tons of lakes), winter time sking and skating, good nightlife spread all over the metro area. There are several locations for concerts, plays, and general events. Several good shopping malls including high end establishments. If you are looking for a place to live try to stay way north of 8mile rd, Oakland county has several cities with plenty of inland lake front property that is reasonably priced or south western Oakland is close to everything but you don't have the lakes. The upper east side would give you more home for the buck with all the new housing developments but is a bit of a drive and traffic sucks up there. You could always look downtown for super cheap, but general shopping (grocery/drug/gas) sucks downtown and it is still a very poor/slummy area to live. Downriver is another area that is low priced but again has the same issue as the upper east side with heavy traffic and being at the southern end of everything. The Detroit Metro area is a great place to live, we are just having a job's issue due to the heavy reliance on the auto industry around here, so you can get some good housing cheap in an area with tons to offer, but little chance of finding a great job.
  • Why would you want to move here? I hope you are going to get an apartment downtown in a gated community or live somewhere in the suburbs. Detroit is very dangerous now a days. We have very few police officers aournd and they take forever if there is an emergency. Not to mention the economy is soo jacked up here so I hope you have a job lined up. The unemployment rate here just hit 10.6%!! And it is just getting worse!!! If you are not scared yet..... I would reccomend that you check out the MGM Casino, Fox theater (even if the show sucks the theater is amazingly beautiful I can just sit there for hours) Comerica Park, and if you are hungry look up Caper's iti is located on Gratioit and State Fair. On Monday nights they sell T-bones for $.45 per oz and thier baked potatoes are huge and always cooked perfect. If you are ini the mood for pizza Buddy's has the best pizza around. I can't think off the top of my head where they are located so just look them up. WELCOME TO DETROIT!!!! Oh and we are all crazy drivers, stop at every intersection on the side streets, do not jump the red lights (people run the reds) OH HELL JUST DRIVE SAFELY DO NOT FORGET TO BUCKEL UP!!!
  • I went to the Detroit Institute of Arts the other day.I love going there.
  • These are in michigan...
  • Do not leave any valuables in your car. Make sure you have car insurance. When Driving in the city of Detroit make sure you have doors locked. Stay on the main roads. Most of the main roads travel west to east are label by Miles so when you are given diections say 7 mile and Gratoit you will know that Gratoit goes North to south. (btw E 7 & Gratoit is not a good spot ) matter of fact any place on the West side of the city is a little shady. Also make sure your doors are locked when in stores and park near cameras and lights. Also make sure you have spare tire in your car and roadside service, the roads are filled with pot holes. do not rely on mapquest to get around, For pizza buddy's and happy's are great. In the summer in Mount Clemens about 10 miles north of the city they have free concerts on river. Also there is the Zoo, and the dream Cruise on Woodward. here are a couple of sites that may help also http://detroityes.com/Default.htm http://www.detroitmi.gov/Departments/PoliceDepartment/ContactNumbers/tabid/1328/Default.aspx http://www.michigan.gov/ Good Luck and be safe.
  • You have already moved by the times im writing this... But I would say if you still have a chance stick to the suburbs... Places like Grosse Pointe. (the very last scene in Gran Torino was in grosse pointe shores along the lake....) The value of the houses are mabye 1/3 at best of what people bought them for yet we have high taxes and a very strict police force.. so it keeps most the crime from detroit out.. I will admit our city has gotten more crime here lately but not that much... The main problem with Michigan is the economy, we have the worst unemployment in the united states... Things I enjoy that you might are things like boating... michigan has more coastline than even California... We are sorounded be lakes on all but our smallest sides... You can visit many great islands and go to places in Canada. (mind you passports are now needed unless your calling in by boat) Have fun and be safe... Don't flash your valuables in the city even though alot of good people live there so do alot of bad people.
