  • This is such a loaded question.... and no... they dont make you drink the coffee... not all people that go there are members of the church and they may drink coffee...
  • I don't think it's much different than me having vegetarian friends to dinner. I serve both meat and vegetarian items, so those who choose to eat meat can and those who don't eat meat have other options. It's just the polite thing to do.
  • Don't know! I'm more concerned about ME being hypocritical.
  • Oh you mean is it hypocritical to make money selling a beverage that you believe is unfit for human consumption? Yes. Can you blame them? No. Here in Salt Lake, there is a newspaper called the CityWeekly, and in a 2007 article looking at Mitt Romney's supporters in Utah th author pointed out that in the 1980's it was revealed that the LDS church owned stock in companies that produced alcohol and that the Salt Lake Tribune had broken the Story...I believe he named Anheuser-Busch specifically. I have never been able to find ANY other information about this, so how true it is, I can't say for sure. But hey, my father-in-law is Muslim and he sell bacon cheese burgers at his restaurant
  • If it's kona,put some in this bag,and I'll overlook it(I'm from IL)
  • I would say that while we certainly shouldn’t be judging people, this does seem like a pretty hypocritical decision. I’ll have to talk to my friend that used to work there and see what she has to say about it.
  • As a kama`aina and someone who has passed through the PCC many a time, let me answer. Firstly, the coffee sold at the PCC is decaf. This is still against the Word of Wisdom, but important enough to mention. Secondly, coffee only affects those that consume it. Coffee doesn't put others at risk like alcohol or cigarettes. Finally, since it doesn't affect others and makes some people feel welcome, then why not serve it? The Polynesian Cultural Center is the largest tourist attraction in the state. It is in the hospitality business.
  • Things are seldom as they appear - I seriously doubt we have all the relevant information in the case. It is hypocritical for individual Mormons to drink coffee if they say they do not drink it, it is not hypocritical to have coffee available in a food service setting for those who choose to order it. One might be compelled to believe the era of Pharisees didn't end 2000 years ago...
  • First of all, how is the Mormon Church Hierarchy involved in the Polunesian Cultural center. I doubt very seriously the Cultural Center is owned by the Church. But in fact could be owned by a member of the Church. Just like the string of Merriot Hotels, which in some cases show pornagraphic movies on television in their rooms. I found they are actually Franchised out and each manager is free to decide these things. I can guarantee if the LDS Church actually owns the Cultural center, they do not serve Coffee, or tea. You my friend have left out a whole lot of details. I do not believe it is as you have said...whew4
