I am currently building a wardrobe not consisting of only gym shorts and t-shirts and am trying to learn the basics. Any advice for a beginner? The more comprehensive the better!

Invest ina P-Coat women love em...Jeans, slacks, cargo pants(they come in zip offs so you can wear them as shorts in the spring), Polos, Button down shirts women love sharp dressed men, sweaters...this is all comeing from a gay man belive me i know what to get. too hard to explain via web. Go to Nordstrom and ask for the stylist- its free and you will not be sorry!!! They are very helpful and knowledgeable. get the basics BUT don't go for boring; get unique jeans, nice slacks, button up shirts with neat embroidery, cool shoes, not ugly running sneakers or those preppy bucks. Just because its a staple doesn't meant it has to look like everyone else. khaki pants, white or blue button up, and brown shoes is SO UGLY and for some reason so many men wear this ridiculous "uniform". You don't have to be totally different, but your clothing should reflect something about you. start with a basic neutral- black for example. Then, make everything match that: 1- a black suit 2- gray or black slacks 3- dark blue jeans 4- a few casual tops (not all polos!) 5- a few dressier tops (not all button ups) 6- a sweater 7- a nice trench coat or jacket 8- a good pair of basic shoes that will go from work, to dinner, to party 9- some accessories - belts, hat, scarf, stuff like that - get something that you love, not something b/c you have to have it.
