Just a guess - most stores carry the sizes they think can be sold in a reasonable time. Inventory turnover time is major decsion in a business. If for example they can carry sizes 4 through 12 can turnover 100 pairs in 30 days but if they have size 13 EEE that sits in the backroom for a year they are going go with what sells. You best bet is if there is a locally owned store let them know your needs and that they would get you business if they want it.

Tell me about it. When I was growing up, they never had my size (after about age 14). Now, it seems they DO carry what I wore for years, though, apparently, that wasn't "my size" (too small!)

About 1998 or so, I went to a podiatrist who told me I should be wearing size 18s, not 16s. I switched, and luckily, worked at a place whose owners owned an NBA team. One of his assistants who spent a lot of time with the team, got me a pair from one of the players. (Players usually only wear the shoes one game or so, and then donate them to charity - or someone like me!)

After some surgeries, I now have NO WAY to buy shoes online or anywhere else... They MUST be custom made, and cost about $1800 each pair. Since I'm diabetic, I only have to pay about 20% of that, but still...

I have sons that have extra-large feet, too, and they tend to have problems getting the right type and size of shoes, especially in stores.

If you find out why, does that mean that you'll have to wait less time for the shoes to come after you buy them on line?
