It means that AFTER things go wrong it is easy to see what SHOULD have been done. It is not that easy to see what should be done before the event. When you have you eyes tested, if you score 20/20 means your vision is perfect.

Looking back, it's easy to see where things went wrong. It's much harder to do that while events are still unfolding.
In medicine, we sometimes say, "Everything looks clearer through the retrospectoscope..." :-)

Means that once you have made a mistake you often think back and say to yourself "If only I had though first I might have not made the mistake"
Very easy so after the fact, when you can't go back and fix something, when you now know the out come!

20/20 vision refers to having perfect vision in both eyes.
So once an event has occurred it is easy to be wise after the fact with regards to which decision would have been the best to make at the time.
This is because we have the benefit of now knowing what the outcome is.
Thus hindsight is always 20/20 vision.
