• Unfortunately, those statistics are derived from the visitors of W3schools.com only. Read at the bottom of the page: "The statistics above are extracted from W3Schools' log-files, but we are also monitoring other sources around the Internet to assure the quality of these figures."

• These are the general figures also shown on other stats sites, although IE stats may go as high as 70%, depending upon the population sample. I'm a project manager over web development, so I follow these stats regularly.

• Every article I've seen on browser usage indicates Firefox in the low teens, so to show it near 30% is very surprising. W3schools.com further states, "These facts indicate that the browser figures below are not 100% realistic. Other web sites have statistics showing that Internet Explorer is used by at least 80% of the users." The source I cite in my answer is the same one cited by news organizations.
