Two answers already here, but wanted to say this is a great question. I have a spreadsheet where I collect "cultural tidbits" from science, technology, arts & entertainment, inventions, politics, daily living, etc. It helps me when I turn to write up ancestor profiles to better imagine what the world was like in "their" lifetime or when "they" were 18 or 35 or 60. This is a fun one I'm going to add to my 1940s list. See? You never know how your Q&A is going to help someone in ways you didn't expect! :)
