You're reading Are ya'll aware that 'Happy Holidays' also has religious conotations? It came from 'Holy Days' so whether you say 'Merry Christmas' or 'Happy Holidays' you are basically saying the same thing. Christmas is a Holy time. <:))))<><

no, you won't. even people who don't believe in god believe in freedom of religion. they just don't want to have someone else's religion forced on them.

that's a nice speech, first of all I don't have a "religion". The issue is what's being considered "forced"? I can't enjoy a Christmas tree in an airport because a ravine said Christians where imposing their religions and a friend can't have a menorah displayed on her house because the neighbors complained. restrictions never led to freedom.

I'm sorry you feel so persecuted for your beliefs. But, I have difficulty in believing that anyone has prohibited you from saying "Merry Christmas", let alone "God bless you" to you children. What's really insane? The part that we like to SAY that we're an open, free and inclusive society, respectful of all and their beliefs? Or the part that, in practice, we are just belligerent of our own perspectives over those of others? True, things can go too far, but as I've said elsewhere on similar topics, cultures and societies are dynamic. They are in constant flux. Things sometimes go to extremes and then, just like a pendulum, swing back the other way. There is a middle ground where most, if not all, can find happiness and contentment. We just haven't found it yet. I'm pretty sure we will... someday! :)

Actually, if you're talking about the Seattle, WA airport incident, the rabbi apologized and the trees were replaced. He said that the intent of his protest was to include a menorah, not get the trees removed. The airport officials were the ones who made the decision to take down the trees. As for your friend, that sounds like he or she has some pretty crappy neighbors. You can't really magnify a few incidences and blanket all of America with them.

No, I'm not magnifying incidents I'm using them to show a point, again, I don't feel persecuted since I don't follow any religion. I do think USA has a healthy discussion on social issues and I celebrate the fact that people here seem to have a voice (more than in other countries) I'm just worried that what we see know as incidents can become the standard.

OK, I understand that better. It's true, we do seem to have a lot of discussion about things we have always taken for granted. And I agree, this is both good and bad, depending on how far they get taken. I can really only speak from my viewpoint, which is pretty moderate. I used to the "in your face" kind of liberal activist, but have mellowed a LOT with age. LOL Pretty much the only thing I get worked up about now is when people prevent others from using their voice or living their lives with dignity and privacy. I agree with you that things don't always look so good, but I still think that nothing is ever permanent. That's a great thing about this country. It's flexible in its practices while being firm in its beliefs.
