All of the astrologists came together and redefined the definition of a planet and Pluto no longer fit in that definition. These people have the right to redefine a planet because they were the ones who defined them in the first place (not the same specific people), and they are experts in their field. It doesn't mean everyone else is wrong, it just means that a term can no longer be used to describe something, its not like Pluto doesn't exist, its just not technicaly a planet anymore. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Definition_of_planet

They are given the right by everyone who accepts their choices. Most publishers and scientists agree with their findings, and that is their authority.

Edit: It's the same right/authority that scientists have to tell us the Earth is round. Some people still do not consider this to be the case, and that is their right.
