  • Why do so many people ask questions like this? If states wanted people to be treated as adults at 17, they would make the age of majority 17. State have an age of majority law because it determines when a person is deemed an adult under the law. Until you reach that age, or become emancipated, your parents have the right and duty to care for you. That includes telling you what you can and cannot do.
