Help answer this question below.
What time period are you in? It makes a story much more believable if the name fits the the time period. There is nothing that jerks me up out of the story faster than a young woman in the Victorian era named Brittney or a young man in Colonial times named Brad.
It also helps to consider the geographical location of your story. A young man in Ireland in 1820 wouldn't be likely to have a sanskrit name, for instance. Also, keep in mind that it wasn't common for young women to have male best friends until fairly recently, unless there just wasn't anyone else available (like on the frontiers).
Given your young lady's name, I'm guessing that she is living in the 1800's, probably early 1800's. Geographically she could be anywhere English-speaking. That would be a common name in the states, in Britain or in Australia. Common male names in that historical location would probably follow the royal family, American leaders (founding fathers) or family names: Charles, William, Frederick, Robert, Albert, Alfred, George, Samuel, Thomas, Hubert, Hugh, Wallace, Gerald... Get a list of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, the Royal family, the officers of the Civil War or other period pieces to get an idea of probable names.
What is you story setting. I think you could go with Cane Maxium if he is the tough guy or maybe Cane could be his middle name and that it what everybody calls him. I am wwritning a book where I address the character as one name and then another name. This is he is called by his middle name but the main person only knows him by his first.

Well, these days it seems to be totally made up names, state and place names and random nouns that are popular, so call him anything you want to.
