For humor purposes. If someone told me to take a hike, I would tell him to go f*ck himself, which is much more funny. =D
Its a nicer way to tell someone to GO AWAY! So I guess it always had negative connotations.
Are "Touched by god" and "Touched in the head" the same thing? And should you report them to the police?
