  • Do you have any idea how costly the conversion to solar panels is?
  • ....because it would cost me $20,000 to $50,000 up front to do so and it's easier to pay the $100 a month electric bill.
  • It is by far cheaper to pay for the electricity than to pay for the solar cells.
  • Solar panels are cheap enough to buy, but only one or so panels. To entirely replace your electricity bill would be an astronomical number of panels.
  • Because it's massively expensive to install solar panels. Especially enough to completely run your house.
  • The real reason is that the initial investment is somewhat high. Also the solar panels only charge batteries out of which we must draw the power using inverters to suit the voltage required for home fittings. Replacing batteries too is costly. Then the number of sunny days per year vary from place to place. So solar energy can at best be a supplementary energy source only. But if some sort of incentive is offered I am sure more people will come forward and install Solar Panels in their homes as a supplementary power source.
  • Some rich people have implemented wind, solar, tidal, and/or other combinations of "green" power but it isn't usually cost effective. They tend to do it to save the planet, not to save their bank account. The technologies are getting closer and closer to being worth it though. http://www.ecogeek.org/content/view/1910/83/
